: Hey.. OK, well I'm Catholic.. and for those who arent, most Catholics believe in a doctrine called "transubstantiation." What this states is that we believe that the blessed bread and wine actually becomes the body and blood of Christ. This is definitely the BIGGEST leap of faith that the Catholic church asks us to make. ...

Personally, I'd say the biggest leap of faith would be asking someone to believe in a god in the first place.

I don't understand why people get all het up about religion. I mean, I kind of understand... I go through those mind-bending "where-did-we-come-from-and-what's-the-point" trains of thought now and then. I refresh the fact that my comprehension in the big picture is pathetically small (when you start thinking about space and time and infinity, etc.), my life is short and I freeze up recalling that I'm eventually going to die. I guess religion is a kind of anchor point for people, so that when you start thinking these petrifying thoughts, there's the comfort that "my god is there, my existence won't end when I die, and everything'll be explained." I can't believe that until it's in front of my face. Right now I believe that I have a doctor's appointment in a half hour, I'm hungry, and that the weekend is only a day away (camping - yay!). Dealing with my immediate life is my religion, I guess, because trying to explain the big stuff seems horribly conceited.
