: Tried that. Didn't do me much good. Sorry, didn't work for me, ma'am... didn't work for a lot of people. "All roads lead to God" did work for me and continues to work for me. I'm sorry you can't deal with the fact that I'm happy with something other than the thing you're happy with... but you'll have to deal.
"All roads lead to God" is actually a logical impossibility.
Jesus said he is the only way to God - for anyone.
If Christianity is true:
There is only one road - Jesus.
if it is false:
As a false road, cannot be grouped with the other roads.
Therefore all but Christianity lead to God.
So, in either case you cannot get "all roads".
: Because it's common courtesy to let everyone figure out their own path... especially in religion. You wouldn't want the world religions to be populated by blind literalists prone to killing each other over a turn of phrase, would you?
I agree, those are not the desirable type of literalist.
: No, there was that strong possibility. Tried it. The strict forms didn't work well at all... a watered down version mixed with a few other things works just fine for me. Sorry if my existence offends you.
Which strict forms?
: Hey. If I was a murderer in a nation so barbaric as to murder its murderers, I'd be pissing my pants too.
You wouldn't if you knew that death is nothing.
: Ma'am, I did. I got the warning... on a place a lot more appropriate for street preaching than a film web-board... and I looked into it. I'm inclined to choose a different path.
True, this isn't the most obvious place. I see no harm coming of it.
: They believed that there was something so large supporting them that nothing could bring them down... sounds like a lot of religions, including some takes on Christianity.
Yeah, kinda. Except boat!=God, last I checked.
: Ah, but there you are, eh?
: It's only truth insofar as you believe it to be truth.
: A tradition of charismatic and powerful men wrote and spoke on subjects, said it was the word of God, and you believe that their claim is true.
: Good for you. That doesn't make these people's claims to truth true for me.
Considering the implications of their message, if they are correct, it IS true for all. All-relative truth and Christianity cannot co-exist.
: I don't believe that, in the majority of the cases, the Bible was written by... directly or indirectly... God so these things aren't truth to me. The Bible, as my research says it, was written and rewritten by people who were at best philosophers trying to explain ethics and creation in terms accessable to the illiterate and short-lived... and at worst, written and rewritten by blind-eyed zealots and the power-mad.
Yes, written by them, but inspired by God.
