: : To all the people who had a field day with what my heart begged me to share, I wonder if you ever step outside today's popular philosophies which all have in common, "all roads lead to God" or "there is no God".
: Tried that. Didn't do me much good. Sorry, didn't work for me, ma'am... didn't work for a lot of people. "All roads lead to God" did work for me and continues to work for me. I'm sorry you can't deal with the fact that I'm happy with something other than the thing you're happy with... but you'll have to deal.
: : Do you realize that you're believing what you believe because in Western society they all believe like you do. "Believe what you want to believe, truth is different for everyone."
: Actually, that's a rather new idea in Western thought that hasn't even gotten to everyone yet... but a long time ago there was this crazy guy with long hair and a beard who said a lot of crazy things and went against the grain of established thought who said "judge not lest you be judged".
: Probably George Carlin.
: : You say, "we're all searching for truth but if you if you happen to find it, don't tell anyone they should believe it too."
: Because it's common courtesy to let everyone figure out their own path... especially in religion. You wouldn't want the world religions to be populated by blind literalists prone to killing each other over a turn of phrase, would you?
: : It's like a beggar who finally gets a great meal and there's more to give out free. But instead of running excitedly to tell his friends he tells them although he found food, they can feel free to keep eating garbage they'd rather.
: One man's garbage is another man's treasure, lady.
: There's shit that monkies and owls can eat just fine that would kill me or you... and vicey-versy.
: You need one component to get through the day. I use a different one.
: One size does not fit all.
: : None of ya have the guts to say, "there's a possibility that those crazy Christians might really have the truth and I don't want to die without it."
: No, there was that strong possibility. Tried it. The strict forms didn't work well at all... a watered down version mixed with a few other things works just fine for me. Sorry if my existence offends you.
: : Timothy McVeigh was so arrogant until right before he died when he was so scared he couldn't say what he'd planned to say. A talk radio guy said that was cowardly of him, and it was.
: Hey. If I was a murderer in a nation so barbaric as to murder its murderers, I'd be pissing my pants too.
: : But why shouldn't anyone who's unsure of their fate after death not be frightened when the time comes? Death has no sting though to the person who has received Christ as Savior.
: And I'm glad you're so sure and happy. Good for you!
: I reviewed the evidence you take much heart in and it didn't complete me.
: Again, no offense to you.
: Maybe you're an owl and I'm a monkey.
: : No fear, only joy, because God tells them every day that there is a place in heaven with Him. It is not a pathetic dream we cling to.
: I'm glad that belief sustains you.
: : Are you really content to live it up in life and just see what happens at the end?
: I've reviewed your take. Didn't completely do it for me.
: : Unbelievable. That's unbelievable when I'm offering a warning.
: Look, I've seen your texts and your numbers and I walked away and said:
: "This does not convince me completely."
: I liked a lot of it. I took some of it to heart. But I'm still afraid and unsure.
: : With other religions, it's cool if you don't want to believe it. Christianity is the only one that says, you're risking a lot if you don't check it out.
: Uh, no. Most religions are pretty dire in their scare tactics. Seriously.
: Old Testament? Koran? Greco-Roman myth? Native American traditions? Eastern beliefs? There's all some seriously bad shit lined up for the non-believers. Study 'em.
: : It's a warning. How can you not check out a warning?
: Ma'am, I did. I got the warning... on a place a lot more appropriate for street preaching than a film web-board... and I looked into it. I'm inclined to choose a different path.
: : Those people on Titanic didn't believe the ship was going down because it was cold outside and uncomfortable to get in the boats. They laughed it off for a while. The boats that had a capacity of something like 70 were lowered with an average of 16 people. That's a lot of people refusing to get it. They died because of their unbelief.
: They believed that there was something so large supporting them that nothing could bring them down... sounds like a lot of religions, including some takes on Christianity.
: : That was stupid of them. Things like that happen. That's the way it is with God. You're going to be in trouble if you pass up the chance you have be saved because the truth is annoying.
: Ah, but there you are, eh?
: It's only truth insofar as you believe it to be truth.
: A tradition of charismatic and powerful men wrote and spoke on subjects, said it was the word of God, and you believe that their claim is true.
: Good for you. That doesn't make these people's claims to truth true for me.
: It's not a rejection of you as a person. I simply see a different way and I have different needs.
: : So get on your knees and ask God to give you the faith if you lack it so that you can do the thing that will save you. The Bible says, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved." (Acts 16:31) and "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son. That whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life." (Jn. 3:16) Also, "He who has the Son has life. He who does not have the Son, does not have life."
: I don't believe that, in the majority of the cases, the Bible was written by... directly or indirectly... God so these things aren't truth to me. The Bible, as my research says it, was written and rewritten by people who were at best philosophers trying to explain ethics and creation in terms accessable to the illiterate and short-lived... and at worst, written and rewritten by blind-eyed zealots and the power-mad.
: You apply an infallibility to the Bible and those of certain traditions who claim to speak for God. I think they speak only for themselves, their agendas, fears and prejudices.
: Different strokes for different folks.
:
: : Katherine
: The problem is, Katherine, beyond the fact that you're preaching at people who have their own needs and beliefs... is that you're just in the wrong forum for an extended conversation on it.
: The guy who owns this site believes quite stridently in Christianity... so you're preaching to the choir there... and as for the rest of us, we're here to talk about movies, Viewaskew movies... and while some of those movies touch upon the issues of religion, this place is hardly about pushing one set of beliefs onto another... or for a long conversation on religion in broad strokes.
: We're glad you're happy... but we're all going to choose our own paths, moreover, this place ain't your soapbox to preach your take. Okay?
: You're not going to become the mini-celebrity of "the lady who loves her God" despite the rather arrogant self-appellation you entitled your post with, alright?
: We're already got Isis.
: Thank you
