I myself hita similar situation, which has since been remedied. I was collecting for years up until the "Clone Saga" (wow, did EVERYONE stop during this period. Sure explains why Marvel went bankrupt a while back) but picked up again when they opened a comic shop in the mall i worked in (no, it wasn't calle Comic Toast, and Stan Lee never came...damnit). I've gotten so much into comics recently (thanx to Kevin's run on Daredevil & Green Arrow indoducing me to those awesome characters) that i now work for Diamond Comics Distribution. And yes, i'm back collecting the Spider-books (which, oddly enough, Spider-girl and Ultimate seem to be the best of the series)...all you've missed in the past six years (mainly) is that Marvel started most of it's series over again from issue #1 after it's initial bankrupsy, Mary Jane got kinapped in the main two Spider-books (Amazing & Peter Parker) but came back and her & Parker are now separated, new weirdness in the X-books...yes the 2099 line got canned about 4 years ago...
So far, some of the best books out there right now are (in my opinion at least):
Green Arrow (go Kev!)
Daredevil (David Mack's work is REALLY fucking nice)
Powers (Brain Michael Bendis...very cool shit...did the awesome Torso & Jinx books, and is writing for the next tile on the list)
Ultimate Spider-man (nice retelling of the origin & such, updated REALLy well for the new mill...i at first thought this would suck, but solid all the way through)
Spider-girl (also nice, very much akin to the early Spidey books from the 60s, but suped done for this era)
Hectic Planet (not currently making new stuff, but there are plenty of trades out, vol. 3 jst came out last week...this is the same guy that did MILK & CHEESE, awesoem stuff)
Okay, i'm done sounding like a fan boy now.

: Greetings....
: This is a little off subject, but I figured if I wanted the most help I could only get it here on the main board.
: I like many of you grew up on comics, absolutely loved each month going to the supermarket and just sitting there for hours reading all the comics that had just came out. But, then the plague that was the "Clone Saga" in the Spiderman comics came along....I couldn't take it, my favorite superhero(right up there with X-men and Batman) Spiderman was a clone?!?! What the hell was this? So in essence I stopped collecting, stopped reading and kept all my old ones in my closet for years.
: Well now I'm in college which means of course one thing...IM BROKE. So in an effort to make some money I dragged out my comics and started sorting them to sell to a local comic store. Strangely as I sat there, I began to read all my old faves, spiderman, the hulk, captain america, x-men, x-men 2099(did all the 2099 comics get canceled?), etc etc etc. Sort got me wondering what has happened in the last 6 years Ive been away.
: What happened since I've been away?
: If anyone could help a brother out it be appricated.
: And since Ive already wrote like a 12 page letter already(sorry bout' that) does anyone know what I could look into if I wanted to be a comic book writer??
: Thanks.
