: : I think the show has been amazingly consistent. If anything, I think the past couple seasons have gotten FUNNIER- they certainly have gotten a lot more twisted and bizarre. That "jockey" episode had me in stitches.
: It used to have a moral, hook, conclusion, etc. to each episode, but now the newer episodes can end abruptly, and not make any sense. Like Homer losing his thumb. It's a lot more strange now than it is funny, like you said...but I really dig the older episodes much more. The writers probably have something to do with this morbid, dark comedy the Simpsons have become. Each show is some extremely wacky, out-of-place adventure, and there's no more social commentary or making fun of celebrities and movies. And Homer just isn't the same.
: Ahh...the perils of a nerd-stalgic Simpsons fan.
Hell no. The early Simpsons episodes were shit. I regard myself as a *huge* Simpsons nut, but I can't stand the early episodes with all their bulldust moralising and (comparitively) pissweak humour. Particularly the first series. The show definitely became funnier as it went on.
And there's social commentary - it's just not so blatantly obvious.
And the less there is of the self-righteous Lisa fucking up everybody's good time, the better!
