It suggests that Clerks takes place on saturday, that Mallrats is a "prequal," taking place on friday, and that Julie Dwyer died on thursday. In the movie Clerks, Randal says that Julie died yesterday, in Mallrats Brandy says that Julie died yesterday. This makes the events in Clerks and Mallrats happen on the same day, and if that is the case, how are Jay and Silent Bob in the same place at the same time?
it also says to not dwell on julie's time of death. but the truth is, you see, when kevin made clerks he had no idea it would become the first of a "trilogy". if you really sit down and study the whole timeline thing, hardly any of it makes sense. it's just a neat little fun thing for the fans.
