My advice is to try it and see if the framing is okay in that mode. When we shot the film we were framing for possible blow-up to 35mm, so it theoritically *SHOULD* be possible to crop it to 1.78:1, but I personally prefer the taller 1.5:1 shape. We started doing the video transfer at 1.66:1, and while nothing *IMPORTANT* was matted off the image, it just felt too tight to me, so I had it opened up to 1.5:1, with one shot matted to 1.66:1 later in the film because we had to cover up some offending visual information in the shot (i.e., a dead man who kept breathing).
