I was thinking that maybe for that line to work and to tie up 'every single loose end' (such as when the fuck the clerks cartoon comes in the NJ Chronicles time line), that the Clerks really did have a cartoon (in the NJ Chronicles world) thus explaining why Randal said the thing about ABC. Just a guess that needs more work to perhaps be expanded on...
