means 'the United States of America'. it does. i didn't make the rule. the continents are North America and South America. 'America' is the USA.
i know that a bunch of British shows are shown on Canadian tv. 'Keeping Up Appearances', eh?... hm. :)

and don't get narky about names, missus, or we could get into a bunch of geo-political gubbins... UK, GB, England, Ireland, Eire, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, British Isles...
