Writers will never get their due respect because of the overinflated egos of the dickheads... I mean directors. The DGA refuses to give up their predatory "A Film By" credit, even though the director more often than not comes onto a project long after the script has been written and rewritten and rerewritten.
You have blowhards like Steven Spielberg who claimed at the Oscars when winning the Thalberg that we must elevate the written word, but refuses to give up the possessory credit. Why? Because Spielberg is not a writer. AI is not his creation. And there is more than enough documentation to show there were at least six screenwriters who helped Steve-o mold the script to CE3K to what it became.
There needs to be a revolution away from this vanity crap. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen as long as the new filmmakers are not brainwashed by the DGA to take a possessory credit.
