: Okay, it's been a while since I've seen this movie (I saw in in the theatre and haven't watched it since then) so bear with me here.
: As I recall, I was badly disappointed, because it had *such* potential. Good cast, good story (I loved the premise), and it may well be the only Hollywood blockbuster EVER to include a non-stereotypical gay man. (I loved that guy! He was so cool!) I seem to remember that Ben Affleck and Gwenyth (sp)? Paltrow had no chemistry, that their characters' first kiss seemed like nothing so much as scripted, and that all-around I was pretty unhappy because the movie had *so* *much* potential, but it just fell flat. Although I did like the gay assistant. Did I mention that? Because I liked him. I was stunned to see a gay guy in a big movie who wasn't just all swishy and stereotyped. That's so rare, and I consider it an indication of how good the movie *could* have been.
: To make this vaguely on topic (upon rereading this post, I'm going to have to emphasize the "vaguely"), I'd like to mention that it was the second major role I'd seen Affleck in (the first being Armageddon, and don't get me started on that *fucking* godawful movie), and I was too busy being disappointed in the movie to evaluate the acting. Thus, I didn't even realize that he *could* act until I saw Dogma and was *so* blown away by the whole thing, and him especially. (Amusingly, when I told a friend how much I'd liked Dogma, the very first thing she said was, "*You* watched a Ben Affleck movie? Really?" Is my hatred for all things popular with the teenybopper crowd *that* obvious? *pause* Okay, don't answer that.) I've now taken hostage this picture of Affleck that my sister was waving around in my face, and not only does she not realize I have it (after spending two hours in my room watching Dogma with me, and all she'd have had to do to see was turn her head), I don't even think she knows it's missing. And after making that big stink about her "boyfriend", too. But yesterday she informed me that he is too "old" for her, so maybe I'll get to keep the picture when and if she figures out that I have it.
: And anyone who's actually managed to read this post all the way through without getting a headache from trying to follow my circumlocution gets a cookie.
