I am an editor for my school newspaper, and even though it's a different style, I can tell who wrote an outline for their article before writing it. If you do an outline, even a really general outline, it should help you keep the story coherent. Also, you might already do this, but if you think of something that would be really good in the script, write it down because you won't remember it when you get back to writing. I come up with some of the funniest stuff for my articles when I'm out playing basketball.
Just telling you what I know, you obviously don't have to take my advice.
