Mallrats certainly has its flaws, in my opinion the pacing stutters once they get to the dirt mall, and London just stinks. Overall however Mallrats is elevated in stature by the character of Brodie. I feel he is the "purest" view askew character, by his very nature. The comic hoarding, sega playing, parents basement living, all contribute to make him the very heart of the askewniverse, along with a lack of ambition and a quick wit. The character as written, coupled with Lee's performance, encapsulate the entire jersey film experience, and in so doing exonerate any of Mallrats' shortcomings.
