Jason said: WOW. I went to my hotmail account and found 72 new e-mails in my inbox. HOLY SHIT!
Sybilla says: Hi Jason, I'm not sure if you'll even read this but I have a few things to say. First of all, please don't think I'm trying to sound patronizing, but there's something you will have to face: You ARE a celebrity. Your popularity as a movie star is skyrocketing. I'm not exaggerating, this is true. I mean, even a goddess like Jen Love Hewitt came out publicly and said she's a big fan of yours, for God's sakes! A major motion picture with you in it is playing in theaters worldwide as we speak. And not only that, but it's not just any romantic comedy, it's quite a good one if you ask me. I was laughing so hard all throughout the whole thing, that people in the theater must've thought I was under the influence of some kind of drugs or alcohol, or "mixing medications" as you told Jen's character in the scene where she allegedly hurt her ankle and was all over you.
I don't have to tell you this. You already know the implications of being a celebrity. It's a double-edged sword. The glamour, the money, the attention you get, and all that other stuff is cool. But there are also drawbacks, such as, but not limited to, a lot of obsessed people out there who specialize in stalking celebrities.
I'm glad these people here at the www board are respectful enough not to flood your earthlink address with fan emails. But, hehehehe, let's face it, perhaps if you don't like to get bombarded with emails, the best thing to do is not to give out your email address in the first place.
Please don't think I'm upset. You're being very nice about this whole issue, and I really appreciate that. I hope the rumor doesn't spread. As for me, my lips are sealed. But heck, there's new people joining this board every day. The internet is a dangerous place. My theory is that, if the rumor spreads about your email and stuff, you may have to change it, and I don't blame you for that.
I totally understand. I mean, I'm a nobody by Hollywood standards, I'm a struggling animator/writer who had a site, and was forced to get rid of it, because I couldn't handle the emails. I didn't want to disappoint my visitors, but hey, there were days when I'd find myself replying to 20 to 30 emails a day. That was ludicrous. People would demand for me to update often, and the thing became a responsibility rather than a hobby, so I said, forget it. I'm going to use my time wisely, continue to work on my drawings and writings, and perhaps later on I might publish them on CD ROM or something like that.
Yet, despite all this, as I said before, we're your fans, and we'd feel very happy to communicate with you, whenever it's convenient for you. So please don't worry about it. Reply whenever you can, whenever you feel like it. If you get email from psychos, I think hotmail has an option for you to block them from sending you any more mail.
But please don't take that away from us. Oh jeez, I'm sorry. I really don't want to sound like I'm telling you what to do. Please, I'm just asking you to let us communicate with you, that's all. We'll wait, there's no rush. And if there's never a reply, I'm sure most of us will understand.
Believe me, judging by your performances in the movies I've seen, this is only the beginning for you. I wish you great luck, and someday hope you'll get nominated for an Oscar or something. I mean, Ben and Matt won an Oscar. You're just as good at them in some people's eyes. In my perspective, you're better than them, but I won't even go there because they're your friends and I have no right to be saying this.
As for your BMW, I'm just a newbie here, but I think nobody here has the financial resources to buy the car you're selling. I know it was a very nice gesture on your part to give us, your fans, your email addresses, but there are consequences to that. We'd like to communicate with you. You see? We understand you're busy filming your movie and stuff, but hey, we're your fans. An actor becomes a celebrity because of two things: media attention and fans.
I'm not saying you're being mean to us. I'm just hoping your fame doesn't go to your head and make you forget about us, who have been your fans since the very start. I honestly never knew you as a skateboarder, but I became a fan after seeing Chasing Amy and Kissing a Fool. And of course, now Heartbreakers. Dogma I wasn't too crazy about not because I'm religious, but because there were too many scenes with too much expository dialogue, and unfortunately I'm used to more visual stuff, but that's totally independent from your performance as Azrael, which was great.
Take care, good luck, and please please, stay down to earth.
