You mean criterion as in Criterion Collection?

If that's what you're asking, from what I can find out they are an independant company that licenses movies from the original studios so they can release them in their collection. The rights to some of the films they have released have reverted back to the original studios which is why some Criterion DVD's are out of print and very hard to come by (The Killer, This is Spinal Tap, The 400 Blows, Hard Boiled). If you can find these on ebay, you're going to dump a nice chunk of change to buy one. This is also the same reason that some movies they released on Laserdisc they will not be releasing on DVD.

The do have a partnership with Janus Films, but they are independant of any studio.

: Am I right in thinking criterion is miramax? if not then who owns criterion?
