There aren't too many people as cool as Mr. Lee. I've encountered several close-minded individuals myself, and it's a breath of fresh air when I meet people who are open-minded, and willing to hear someone out and listen to what they have to say. Unfortunately, I'm stuck below the Bible-belt, and being Buddhist doesn't help my situation much. I don't want people to agree with me, or say that I might be right, or that it's ok for me to believe in something different. I want people to just accept that I'm not going change my beliefs because "I'm wrong". But that's beside the point. The point is that religious discussions only become a problem when someone doesn't accept that not everyone in the world is going to believe in the same God and the same afterlife...EVER. And most people will never change their religion. Some may change their views of other religions, but if they are happy with what they have faith in, they won't want that happiness to go away. That made sense in my head...

: ***I was right in the middle of posting this when the board switched over. Please don't delete it right away if you decide to at all....I really did put a lot of time and thought into it...*** Thanks, mrsjiggy =)
: In response to Jason Lee's "Last Religious Post" from the last board:
: There really should be more people like you in the world. And, more people like some of the posters on this board. The ignorance I have encountered in recent weeks on another message board (which is supposed to be a place where people can go and carry on open discussions about religion, etc.) has astounded me. I don't say any of this because of where I am or who I have chosen to respond to, but because of the recent postings I have faced, especially over the past week, on that other board. It used to be a place where I would encourage my friends of all religious backgrounds to go and discuss things, but it has since evolved into a place more hate-driven and judgmental than one would expect. Anyway....I've been away from this particular board for some time now because of the time and energy I was putting into posts on the other board. I regret it now because it seems there is more open-mindedness present on this board. While I know religious discussions and debates are probably considered way off topic, it was kind of interesting to come through and read things here.
: At one time I was going to be a religious studies major. That changed when I changed colleges and career paths. But...I had the opportunity to study some fascinating religions; however, I never really had a chance to look more into Scientology at all. I think now I may do some independent study. I know there have been great people who have been based in different religions worldwide. I think that is why I take such an interest in studying other religions. Anyway....
: Just wanted to say thanks. I guess I could say I have been inspired to study even more. The learning process never stops, does it? If you get a chance, I posted something in the below thread to try to help people better understand the true definiton of "cult" and I asked a question of you there as well. What not all people know is that the anthropological definition of cult is "a group that follows a particular path." There is not negative connotation to it although society has placed such negative ideas behind that one little word so that it gets mis-used quite often. [Of course, there is also the definition of cult which would typically be attributed to those of us on this board: An exclusive group of persons sharing an esoteric, usually artistic or intellectual interest.]
: And for captaincranium....good for you! There are some people who could really benefit/learn from what you said/did on this board.
: Well, anyway...I guess that's way more than two-cents worth. But...hey... I really did try to keep it straight and to the point.
: as my husband would say....the jig iz up...

: : You people ROCK. Granted, there were a few negative posts, but for
: : the most part, there were some amazingly insightful things that were
: : said. Glenda made a GREAT post, for example. I have faith in people,
: : I know people can be very cool. In this cynnical world we live in, it's
: : nice to see some staight up cool people that have some decency,
: : and respect. It's true, we live in a world where it's very easy to base
: : opinions and feelings on what we read and what we hear. I mean,
: : look at Hollywood, it's FULL of rumors about "stars" and who's dating
: : who, and who did this, and who did that, know what I mean? When I
: : was a pro skater I heard some of the most bizarre rumors about
: : myself. It got to the point where it would get so absurd that I just had
: : to laugh about it. If one doesn't know about something, REALLY know
: : about something, then we aren't really in a position to judge or draw
: : any REAL and concrete conclusions, right? At least one shouldn't.
: : You people have shown a lot of good judgement, and that is very
: : respectable. Very admirable. Until next time..............
