A solid hour and a half of fun is oftentimes its own reward. I think that it is a misperception to assume that something which entertains is not somehow "worthy" or is, by its very nature, inferior to something that attempts to be specifically thought provoking, or "moving."
And funny is most definitely it's own reward. Having a few hours alone, with no responsibilities or commitments and just out and out enjoying a silly, funny film like DUCK SOUP or KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE or MALLRATS or any other film blessedly free from heavy-handed morals or even a real "message" is a welcome, welcome relief.
