Bartelby and Loki had to remove their wings to transmutate to human form. Once human (or at least once wingless, I suppose) they could be killed and re-enter heaven once they had been granted the plenipotentiary (sp?) indulgance by entering the church. That was the original plan, anyway. Apparently Bartelby cuts his buddies wings off and then proceeds to wreak SERIOUS havoc... you've seen THAT part... The early version of the script that was floating around the web went into this, but I guess we didn't get to see it in the theater release of Dogma.
If there is a just god in heaven (which is of course up for debate) we'll get that footage and alot more on the Dogma SE DVD.
