Wow. I didn't think one post would get such a great reaction. I was over at Studio Day this last November, and I asked one of the guys from New Line about the Deleted Scenes, and his response was it wasn't as much a rights issue as it was a cost and demand issue. He basically put it that the financial overhead of the project is what was keeping this from happening. Basically nowadays, new movies go straight from the editing room to a DVD transfer. That way you have all the materials fresh in the editing room and can transfer the movie along with any deleted reels that you have there on hand. With older movies such as FWWM, you just don't have the materials there and ready. You need to spend money to go through the reels, and then transfer, edit, and score them. One thing he said was that fan support has greatly helped the chances of David Lynch being able to present these scenes to us. So keep them coming. :)

: New Line didn't produce FIRE WALK WITH ME- they just picked it up for U.S. distribution. A foreign company- I believe Ciby 2000, a French company- actually financed the film, and as such they own the rights to all the deleted footage, so New Line will have to pay them to include any deleted scenes on the DVD. The point of the petition is to let New Line know that there are enough fans willing to buy the DVD to justify the added expanse of purchasing the rights to the deleted scenes.

: : As far as DVD goes, why wouldn't anyone want to put deleted scenes as an extra? If you have the footage sitting around why not stick it on the disc as an extra? It can't hurt sales can it?
