Dear Kevin Smith and the View Askewniverse,
When i first saw that you were in the process of making yet another movie i was unconcievably over joyed. For as you yourself view the "Star Wars" trilogy as a sort of bible,(as do I) I view the New Jersey Trilogy (and Dogma) as the same. Most people i have met seem to think the movies which you create are "funny" and "entertaining". But, for some reason when I watch them (which is quite often)I see something else besides great puns and "dick jokes". I see a sort of intelect which others these days rarely posses. Most movies now a days are either all about action, love, or comedy. Not saying yours don't feature these mind you, but there is a degree of understanding one must posses when watching a view askew production which makes the movie a cut above the rest. now if I may get back to the subject at hand. I was egear to find out as much about jasbsb as i possible could (without spoiling the movie mind you) that i went on the web to search for it. i inevatable landed at mysterios "weekly play by play" site and saw that he was taking questions from fans and relaying them to you. Now whether it was because i was pressed for time or simply because it was not there i could not find a way to contact him, so i searched for an alternative rout. thus i found this. I had many questions i wanted to ask you, expesially when i heard that this would the fith and final movie you ever made. (this saddens me greatly). such as, why is this the fith and final movie? what will happen to the view askewuniveres after the creator of such a fine place leaves? and, will you be doing any other forms of writing? i.e. a bibliography, or a novel of some sort, comic books even. or maybe just some random words on a napkin. iether way i hope you do something of some sort. Also the reason why i was so determind to find a way to contact you (even the most round about ways as i fear this may be.)was to see if i could say some thing to encourage you to continue any sort of publish writings/movies. Now i know what the great and wise master yoda said "there is no try, there is only do or do not" but i feel as though if i do not "try" then i am not only letting my self down but all the other view askew fans and futer fans. It is true that in the end a "try" does not matter. it is the out come of said conflict. but if you don't even try and let chaos preside, then what? it is worse than failing. The try counts for something even if it doesnt matter in the end. so here it goes! Think of lucas when you've gathered your things and locked the last door and turned to leave the view askew studios. for his movies have and always will be looked at in awe (as yours are and will be!) he made three movies, took a well deserved vacation (for twenty years) and is starting back again! i hope that this is only a temperary vacation (only a little shorter than his hopefully)and you will some day pick up that pencil and begin to write another delightfull script. i know that you are not in the movie bussness for money, for if you were your movies would lack wit and be "crowd pleasers" with comedy the whole family can enjoy. but you seem to be after something different, you dont seem to make your movies to see if people like them, you make them to make them, you have something to say and will say it to whom ever will listen. (and people such as i are willing to listen). which makes your movies truly unique! you are the last of a dying breed! and soon hollywood will be all about the money again and not about staying true to ones self. i truly hope that this message will reach you and convince you to, either stay with the view askewniverse or start a new. iether way i have tried, but only in the end will i see if that try is worth something. ahh yes if you will forgive me for my inane ramblings thus far i would like to continue into further discutions (questions really since you are not here to answer them as i ask them)such as, how did view askew become about? was clerks the first movie....ever? and was it just for fun and turned out to be some thing greater than ever thought possible? if so wow! why i ask is a friend of mine writes and directs movies of his own (nothing so glamorous as you though..he uses a digital camra borrowed from his college) he has made two movies so far consisting of "summer love" and "nine lives" which will be out in 3-5-01. he is very good at what he does (even if the equipment isn't up to standerds) and he will be entering both movies into a film contest later this year. i was wondering if this might be how view askew was concieved and if so do you have any advice on the subject? hmm well no doubt you are tired of hearing me drone on. (as i already am) it is one in the morning after all! but i thank you for your time and hope to hear from you soon! or when ever. even if it is in the form of another movie! if there is never another then i will mourn the loss, but never the less still praise your name!thank you for your movies and inteligent views on life. you have made a tremendous difference in the lives of thousands upon thousands of people all over! From the mind of one voice in your onslaught of fans.
