watch the damn commentary "a look back at mallrats" on the Mallrats DVD, and Kev and Mosier both say that the budget for clerks was around 250 grand, because they were suprised when Universal wanted the budget for Mallrats to be at least 6 mill. so YES, Clerks budget was only about 250 grand. it was an independant film, and it only opened in very few theaters when it came out.
