I think my biggest problem with the academy awards is summed up in Chocolat. I can't remember a single review that said it was even a contender for best picture of the year, but somehow Miramax seemingly 'bought' another nomination by heavily promoting it to the academy(nothing personal against them, lord knows they've been very good to the Askew family). Despite across the board better critical reviews for Almost Famous over Gladiator, Dreamworks chose to push the movie that had more commercial success and therefore more of a fan base to back the voting in the academy. Traffic vs. Almost Famous is my personal opinion for Best Picture this year, and I still haven't figured out which I liked better, but not even a nomination for Almost Famous is more embarrusing for the Academy than any of the filmmakers (in my opinion). I also think that Almost Famous was much more of an ensemble flick than most other movies and it was pretty dangerous to single out just Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand when J. Lee, Crudup, or nearly anybody else in the film deserved a nomination just as much.

: I just felt that even though Almost famous didn't recieve the recognition it deserved, it was still an ace film!
: And, to follow that, Jason, i agree with you on the point of the Academy Awards. It all really came to light the year Titanic swept the board.
: I mean, look at all the other class films in the running and look what won!
: So, it needs to be said that even though the Academy Awards may be a farce, it is always nice to be recognised by the film industry for great work.
: And, as for everyone getting at Jason for speaking his mind and his heart, let it slide!

: Everyone's entitled to their opinions especially those in the public eye.
: They might not often get to speak out for the risk of being mis-quoted, and that looks evident in this case too.

: Live and let live.

: Jason, keep up the great work bro. It's fully and trully appreciated.

: Cheers for hours of entertainment.
: "Wanna cookie?"
