: I admire Kevin Smith's craft as a story teller and writer. What intrigues me most about his story telling is that he doesn't set out to tell a story, he creates people and situations, and through this he creates a story they tell. His dialog accents these characters, making their banter believable.
: My question is how did he teach himself to write such structured dialogue. Or does he have any writing advice for one to better themselves in that particular area of writing. Dialogue is just as important to a story as its plot or character. I'm a writer(though not to be admitted in public too loudly) and want to improve my dialogue, any inspirational advice would be great.
For inspiration try making a character out of your imagination and then
improvise what he might think.
Example:
Buddy Christ: I am Kevin Smith's Pitbull, don't even think of doing anything to him or you will really regret it.
When you get a bunch of characters together, then you can take life experiences you have had and adopt them into a plot.
