Get over it, man. The vernacular existed long before Kevin made the movies.

I was being called a mallrat years before the movie came out, and long, deep, philosophical conversations about Star Wars were on my daily itinerary when I worked at Suncoast before I ever saw anything by Kevin Smith.

In fact, I only started watching Kevin's movies to figure out who this "Silent Bob" guy was and why he was making my life a living Hell. I mean, couldn't people see that I was CLEARLY trying to look like Qui-Gon Jinn? Sure, I was 60 pounds overweight, but I was clearly supposed to be Qui-Gon and not this "Silent Bob" guy.

And then I found out. I sometimes wish no one knew who Kevin was, so that my quiet nature and my choice of daily attire would go unnoticed, or be explained for what they really were:

My hair is long because I used to watch Highlander a lot and thought it looked good.
I wear a trenchcoat because Gabriel Knight, the main character in a computer game I was playing at the time, wore a leather trenchcoat.
I wear my baseball hats backwards because they look dumb the other way around.
And I have a beard because I grew it to be Qui-Gon Jinn for the premiere of The Phantom Menace. (I never did quite get around to wearing the outfit I have, though.)

Instead, I get told by people like you that I'm trying to be Silent Bob, like I have no motherfucking sense of originality or blatant lack of style and need to see something in a fucking movie in order to get ideas.

Well, no more, man.

I'm sick of people like you thinking that Kevin's movies have caused people to talk, dress and act the way they do.

Sure, we might quote Clerks or Mallrats in a conversation, but it's usually in a conversation full of original ideas that a quote from Clerks or whathaveyou fit into, and not a fanboy quotefest. I know the quotefests occur more than I'd like them to, but it's bound to happen when two or more people are discussing a movie that they enjoy. Misquotes are also bound to happen because we're only human.

So get over this whole "Don't quote Kevin's movies if you can't do it right" thing you've got going here. It doesn't suit you, and it just pisses off the usually easygoing boardies like myself.

I own a Mooby hat. I like my Mooby hat. I own it because I liked the design. I don't own it because I look like Silent Bob with it.
