: Jesus, yes I've read the summaries many times, but there is such a thing as not making films occur in cronological order. I was just thinking; because nobody knows what the flicks about yet; that maybe, just maybe if the movie took place before Brodie quit the Tonight Show we might see him doing his monologue or something.

Someone figured this out a long time ago, but here's why this can't happen.

"Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back" is set after "Dogma", as evidenced by the fact that Kevin said in this movie J & SB are the only people who remember the events outside the church.

"Dogma" is set after "Chasing Amy" as evidenced by the "Jay and Silent Bob" comics.

"Chasing Amy" is set after "Mallrats" as evidenced by the fact that the article whereby we know Brodie quit the tonight show is flashed at the very beginning of "Chasing Amy," and gives the date as being around the very beginning of the "Bluntman and Chronic" cartoon run, which end by the end of the movie.

Anyway, just about every fan on here is familiar with the idea of the flicks not being presented in chronological order because Clerks is set after Mallrats. I didn't read the post you were referring to as "too critical", but maybe they were just trying to help you out.
