DOGMA was one of my Christmas gifts. Having only seen the flick twice prior, now that I've got the tape, I can kind of go through and nitpick and question some things that I might not have thought of before. Some are nitpicky, others are more religious/belief-y, and others are just plain nonsensical. Anyhow, here they are:
1) Why did it never occur to anymore to take a friggin' Plane to Jersey? I know it's not in good-ole Road Movie fashion, but it's never even mentioned? What's the deal?
2) (and this is the REALLY anal one)...How do B & L support themselves? Where do they get all the cash to make that Hooded Sweatshirt/Overcoat style? Did they live in a house in Wisconsin?
Now for the deeper ones...
3) What would have been the punishment if B & L had left still under Heaven's radar?
4) What exactly happens to LOKI when he dies (I know we all have our own opinions about Bartleby; in my own sequel to DOGMA, he and Lokes are chillin' someplace nice)? He is HUMAN when he dies after all...did all his prior sins erase once his wings were cut off, or does he go to hell for all of his grevious sins?
and this last one deals with a line cut out from the script. see, i read the script at least every 2 months...just 'cause it's so fucking enjoyable (Mister Smith, you NEED to write a novel sometime soon...). Anyhow, in the Bar scene, we find out that Serendipity and Azreal are brother/sister (not really, but kind of...read the script for the full story). Why would this small but integral tidbit--something i'm sure would've lasted no longer than 15, maybe 20 seconds of finished film--left out? I'm sure this would've added so much texture to this scene...it would've been more than just two spiritual beings clashing...it would've been sibling against sibling.
now, one question for kev...I know you say that the version of DOGMA out IS the director's cut...but a year in retrospect, is there anything else you would've liked to see still intact?
and on the offshot Vinny is reading this post...did you check out Stephen King's ON WRITING? Good stuff, man...especially the more autobiographical elements of it.
