: I'm no expert, but I'v seen how hairy music licensing can get and how
: much it costs so you may want to try two things:

: 1. Contact the performer (Find some creative way, either through the
: fan club or whatever) and SELL them on your "independent" film.
: Convince them to do a mitzvah and let you have the song for next to
: nothing. Of course this will be difficult.

: 2. Find a talented musician friend and play the track for him/her. Tell
: him/her you want something with the same feel. Use an original
: musical work.
