as for why there is this big myth and tradition of having a white Christmas when we rarely have one is (apparently):

up until mid 1800's we were still coming out of an ice age so it was colder.
In 1700 and something (I'm so precise!) they changed the calender and moved Christmas 12 days earlier.
So we used to have white Christmases because it was colder and it was later than it is now.

Also England is fantastic. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
(Might visit though).
