Actually, if you take a look at Jewish dogma (and that's a whole other subject for a movie), Jesus was considered a 'rav', or rabbi. One of the tenets of the Jewish faith is that in order to be a 'rav', you must marry and have children. So, actually, it is entirely conceiveable that Bethany could have been a direct descendant of Christ.
