I think the web has enabled this sort of thing. I can't stand all the LOL, TTFN, SMFD, etc. crap that goes on. It was cute when Gaby Hoffman did it in Sleepless in Seattle, but she was 10. It does not make you cool, it makes you too stupid to spell out the real words you mean.
I do however like your shortened version for Face Off.
