How can buying shoes be such a chore?!?! This is one of the joys of life! Go out and buy at least three new pairs. Sneakers and nice ones if you must (but it is better to buy several pairs that only vary in appearance to the trained eye) You won't believe the difference it can make. Try and get them a little too small, also. And make sure you charge them. And it is preferable that you don't actually have the money to pay for them. And after you take them home, only wear them once because they hurt your feet and then put them in the closet where they will comfort you just by being there.

There's a professor in my department here who actually wears no shoes. NO shoes. He wears one red sock and one green sock. No lie. When he goes outside, he straps wooden boards to his feet. I swear. If the stress is killing you, you could always try that.
