I have noticed something that is bothering me a little. First off I DO love Kevin's work. I relate to it and have a good time with it.
What I do find a little disturbing, is this new slavish devotion to the man.
Kevin, no disrespect intended but I really don't think you deserve the devotion that seems to have erupted. I mean these people are willing to go to Reece Witherspoon's house and egg the poor girl.
Need I remind any of you little hooligans that this woman is a mother? I know that most of you looked on these posts as just goofs or just plain ol fun. But seriously.......I also think some of you thought it was a good idea.
Um..........guys............these are just movies ok? In Kevin's words " Hell I just wanted to write a bunch of fart jokes".
It's a little disturbing to sorta get this Mark David Chapman off of some of you.( Look it up folks.
I guess it's just me, but I don't understand how in today's culture we seem to elevate people in " ENTERTAINMENT" to an almost godlike status and WORSHIP them as such. It is COMPLETELY beyond me how such devotion suddenly turns to " I LOVE HIM/HER SO MUCH I NEED TO MURDER HIM/HER.
A bit extreme? Maybe. But do me a favor, and look around. What started out as a place to talk about the films and exchange some thoughts about such, has now developed into a shrine for the worship of the genius that is Kevin Smith.
Hey, Kev, like I said I am a big fan. Just like Scorsese, Coppola, and Fincher. ( eclectic?) And I really dig your movies ( even Rats). But I bet you are just a regular guy at heart. No mythic pronouncements everytime you speak. No sweeping, grand, generous/horrible gestures everytime you move.
We all get on these people about how DOGMA was "banned" and make fun or even be downright rude. But in effect are we not getting to be the same way? If someone is less than flattering to Kevin or the films we ( as a collective{not unlike the BORG})all jump up and scream LYNCH ( the act....not Brian).
To finish...........Let's lighten up people. The films are FUN....get it?
In the immortal ( and fitting ) words of James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner: "People......get a life"
How bad am I gonna get slammed now?
