I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not, but to "hoop" something means to stick it up your ass. This term is used mostly in reference to people sticking pills of Extacy up their ass. Some people say that "hooping" a pill of X makes it hit you harder. So, people who "hoop" pills, can be called "hoopers".
I find the idea of people "hooping" pills, and the word "hooping" itself to be quite hysterical, so you can imagine my delight that in Chasing Amy, there was a gay man named "Hooper". I found it to be very funny and very clever.
I am wondering if you knew of the meaning of the word and named the gay character "Hooper" on purpose or if it was just a coincidence?
