Assuming you aren't a member of SAG (which would not only get you more money but better food on set *sigh* I want the good cookies!!!) you might get paid, but if LA payscale for extras is like New York we aren't talking about a lot of money. Working on the Woody Allen project I made aroun $75.00 a day (then they took out taxes) working on Law and Order I make in the neighborhood of $40.00 a day (minus taxes). Now I'm not View Askew so I'm not the definitive answer, I'm just saying that if you get paid it's likely that you'll have a hard time paying for a hotel on it.
Which is a bummer since I'm also East Coast based and would have a hard time paying for plane ticket and accomadations to LA.
Maybe Kevin or someone will have a more hopeful answer for you.
