I can clear this up for you. I work for EA and worked on many of the Genesis hockey titles back then.

The version is Mallrats that made it in the final was Sega's 1st NHL Hockey game for the Saturn (I forget the name). If you look closely you can see that Lee is using a Saturn controller.

I know Kevin has NHL 2000 for PSX and PSX2...maybe he will do another EA SPORTS tribute in JASBSB. hint hint...=)
