: Lynch:
: I guess this is a "chicken or the egg" question.. I noticed that you said you had a heart-skip-a-beat-moment when you heard of MONSTERS, INC, and this made me wonder:
: Do you think that your script was picked up in part because *other* studios had "Monster-based" projects in the works, or is the buzz off of NIGHTCRAWLERS making the other studios go ahead with their own monster-flavored-properties? Who has "firsties?"
: It seems like a standard syndrome nowadays- From the battle of the Robin Hood movies (Costner's pushed the one with Patrick Bergin & Uma Thurman to be a TV-only movie), to the dueling Scottish movies of Rob Roy and Braveheart, to the animated insect wars of ANTZ & Bug's Life, and, of course, the My-Asteroid-is-bigger-than-your-asteroid confrontation 'tween DEEP IMPACT & ARMAGEDDON.. Just wondering, was WB *looking* for a monster-movie, and you were in the right place with the right script, or did they scarf up your script based on liking it alone, and now other studios are playing catch up?
: Or is it just all coincidental parallel evolution?
