I used to be way into politics...Poli Sci major, worked for one of the major parties, blah, blah, blah...but I changed careers in under 6 months after graduating from college because politics suck...let me correct that, politicans suck. BUT that does not mean don't vote. Voting is extremely important and does make a difference.
Our choices in America are unfortunately limited because of apathetic people who don't get involved. There are many choices out there but no one knows about them because they don't take the time to learn. There's the Green Party, the Reform Party, the Libertarian Party, Natural Law, on and on...I would say a couple even have legit, good candidates. The government DOES need to do a better job of including these parties in funding, debates, and so on...but the info is there for us to absorb.
I have seen a post referring to there only being two candidates. That is SO wrong. 3rd party candidates are legit and have a good chance of winning in some areas of the country. Gov. Jesse Ventura in Minnesota is a great example. He is an independent, says what he feels, does what he thinks is right, does not accept money from lobbyists. Basically he is an anti-politician. He does what he does and lets the people decide if they want him in office, the way it should be.
Unfortunately only about 8% of the country really is undecided. 92% know they will either vote for Bush or Gore. To win a candidate needs to swing those votes. Back in 1992 when Ross Perot ran he had a legit shot of getting around 25% of the votes, but probably not so this year. But that doesn't mean don't vote. It means now more than ever we need to vote. If you don't like Bush or Gore, don't vote for them...but then don't bitch either.
Apathy is not the way to go.
Just a side note on the original post - Our deficit has never been in the trillions of dollars, only many, many billions...our debt is still around $6 trillion though. Abortion is not a political issue no matter how much people want to make it one. The government should not say yeah or nay, simply regulate the medical practice as they do any other. Abortion is a moral and/or religious decision. Moral and religious choices cannot be regulated (with the exception of psycho suicide bombers, etc). I don't care how other people think on certain issues, it's their right. I applaud Delilah for speaking her mind on such important issues.
