Robert Rodriguez's book that tells you exactly how he made El Mariachi for so cheap.
But that's with 16mm film
If you're shooting in video, hell yeah, that's way cheaper.
Make sure you do the best job you can with the format you're going with.
I would at least shoot in HI-8, but definitely go digital if you can. The computer editing hardware with firewire shit is getting cheaper and cheaper by the minute. Look into that stuff. By a copy of DV magazine. Learn about how video signals work for the different formats. Learn all you can. Take a photography class if you can or filmmaking class.

Hell I can tell you what shit you should learn about all day because there's so much of it. So, all I can say is just get out there and shoot as you're learning. Do it. Focus on your projects and be careful who you count on to help you out. My problems have been getting involved with people who weren't able to handle the smack when it came down to it.
