TS is supposed to be the main character, since in the original openings it was his actions which set off the main plot threads(which is still sort of the case ie. Julie Dwyer).
Also, it is always the straight man who is the centre of Kevin's movies(although less so with Affleck in Amy), which couples with the "Who says he's MY sidekick?!" line to show that TS is meant to be the main guy. It's just that Jeremy London is rubbish so, in the long run, Brodie has become the main character in our hearts, and TS *is* Brodie's sidekick.
