Well, it turns out that the mis-framing problems on the DVD are *NOT* our beloved D.P. Dave's fault at all, because he DIDN'T supervise the transfer. As it happens, Scott became aware that Buena Vista was prepping to do a new 16:9 transfer of CHASING AMY, and informed Dave, who then got in touch with BV because he wanted to supervise it like he did the original video transfers (both the pan-and-scan and letterbox) in 1997. Well, he was told by BV that it was too late, the transfer was already done. I'm guessing Criterion was mis-informed when they were given the transfer and told that Dave supervised it- the folks at Criterion are all good people, and this must have been the result of them being given mis-information. It sucks- some shots on the DVD just don't look right, and because the transfer is credited to Dave, everyone will be thinking it's his fault. I just wanted to get the word out that it isn't his fault at all- it's the fault of whoever did the transfer at Buena Vista Home Video.
