You know, it wasn't until I saw "Mallrats" that it even crossed my razoodock that Kev. might be a little on the heavy side...and that was only because the dialogue flat-out rubbed it in our faces...
At what point in your career, Kevin, did you start writing some harsh observations about your own figure?
What prompted this?
Was it based on casually careless comments made by Mewes?
...comments made by others?
...or did it come from your own inner-bully?
Seriously, man, you've been harsh to yourself...
It seems even stranger when I consider the "Rick Derris"-sequence in "clerks." where Dante (Brian doing a fairly obvious impression of his director's mannerisms) whines: "There isn't any fat on my body!!"
While we're on the subject of heavy, I have to ask what's up with William?
Now, I'm not going to sound-off on the whole "William of Two Worlds" thing again, but when you consider how William was first written (handsome college student, I believe) to Mosier's portrayal (grizzled, drug-zonked man-child)...what was the inspiration to bring Ethan in as the "sloppy bitch?"
I remembered from the "clerks." commentary (and from the the "Mallrats"-publicity, such as it was) that Kevin was stoked to be working with "real actors" this time around...which is exactly how I read Suplee's presence...
...and yet...*I hope this isn't getting overly-critical* Ethan's William really didn't have a whole lot to do. My assumption was that William was going to play a bigger part (no pun here) in the subsequent flicks...but nada...(though I did tell some folks early on that Ethans fanboy in "Chasing Amy" might've been William...despite learning later that I was wrong...)
While I have no doubt that we'll see Mr. Black one more time (perhaps, more than one Mr. Black)...well, why Ethan in the first place?
Right, until next time: England Prevails and Make Mine Marvel!!!!
