: Okay, I just started reading and posting on this board, so don't kill me if you've already had to answer this question a gazillion times. I was watching the Independent Film Channel "Clerks" marathon, in which they showed an alternate ending to this most beloved of films. I was rather shocked to see that in the ending that was rejected, Dante was killed by someone robbing the Quick Stop. I just wanted to know: what made you even consider ending the picture that way? It was so totally different than the rest of the film. What had been slightly morbid (the Caitlin Bree bathroom fiasco and Randall knocking over the casket) turned into an all out trajedy. Despite the hintings at morbidity, the overall feel of the film was of rather upbeat hilarity. It was THE funniest movie I had ever seen at the time, and the alternate ending that you apparently considered was an utter shock to me. Now, I'm not asking you to defent your artistic notions by any means. I'm just wondering about motivation, maybe. It would have completely changed the entire feeling of the movie had you included those last ten seconds or so. Were you planning, at first, to have it end like that? An answer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, and allow me to reiterate: you are my hero! I adore you. (That was in case you didn't read my previous note.) Bye!
