Reed, Morissette To Play Vatican

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope John Paul II, proponent of Christian family values, and Lou Reed, poet of transgender risk-taking, are headlining a May Day concert on Monday.

Rome is laying on a mega-party this Jubilee year for the celebration of workers. Organizers expect about 600,000 people at the day-long event, which begins with a papal Mass.

Tenor Andrea Bocelli, the ``voice of the Jubilee,'' will sing following the Mass. The music begins in earnest a few hours later with stars including Reed, Alanis Morissette and the Eurythmics.

The pope will be gone by the time the main music program begins.
