ABC drafts 'Sports Night' for sweeps

LOS ANGELES -- ABC is recruiting "Sports Night" for May sweeps, Variety reports.
Most industry insiders expected the struggling show to return after the crucial period, when audience ratings are used to set advertising rates for the next quarter. They guessed wrong.
ABC plans to air a two-part season finale May 9 and 16 in the show's regular 9:30 p.m. Tuesday slot.
The sweeps appearance makes it look more likely that the network will renew "Sports Night" for another season next month ... and less likely that the midseason replacement "Talk to Me" will live to see fall.
