I'm having a personal problem, and I wonder if anybody has ever dealt with anything similar.
I wrote a short script for a filmmaking class about a green bay packer fan who says fuck a lot, kicks the shit out of a bronco fan at a super bowl xxxii party, and falls in love with a shy chick at the same time.
my on again off again girlfriend read it, said it degraded women and ridiculed the female characters in it. now the women in my scripts are like kevin's female characters, they are difficult to write because i am confused by women and every woman i've ever know has been pretty fucked up to say the least (slutty, stupid, etc.) I don't have much experience to base it on.
anyhow, her criticism fucked with me, and it's almost driving me to disney up the script a little just to get in her good graces. I say almost, because some things, like my art, shouldn't be governed by anyone else but me. plus, the whole notion of anything disney sucks more than a handjob from a diabetic homeless man with the clap, so to speak.
so, does anybody have any advice on the subject, based on past experiences and overall knowledge? think i should change the script to keep her happy, yet knock off the edginess that happens to be my trademark. i don't expect much help on the subject, and if you want to belittle me for rolling over for my woman, so be it. i'm always up for a good-hearted joke at my expense.
PS: if you want to read the script in question, jsut email me at gutter_is_a_tool@yahoo.com and i'll send it to you. just put "script" in the subject line somewhere so i know you're not some spamming virus carrying asshole.
