: kevin smith is an actor from new zealand. he made his first film in 1991 and has worked on new zealand television shows since 1985.
So, technically, this is the "real/original" Kevin Smith. Scary. I get the feeling that if NZ Smith really REALLY wanted to, he could probably force our Kevin to change his name.
: hercules and xena are both filmed in new zealand, and most of the actors and all crew are from there, including kevin smith.
This helps - presumably, there's a difference between NZ equity and US equity, but Xena and Herc are made by Americans, so who knows what that means.
: Michael douglas is more than michael douglas's name. "michael douglas" is a registered trademark, copyright, and registered company, "michael douglas ltd" perhaps michael keaton could've still used his own name, but why would he? how confusting would that be?
Michael Douglas is a company NOW, sure, but way back when Keaton first came into the picture, in the 70s, weren't they both in TV? Streets of San Fransisco and all that? And sure, it would have been confusing, but I'm sure I saw Keaton discussing it once, and he gave the impression that it kinda wasn't his decision. He came up with "Keaton" on the spur of the moment (cos of Buster), but instead of people thinking he was Kirk's kid, they now thought he was Diane's brother.
: interestingly, the wrong kevin smith is listed on the imdb for scream 3! lol
See, this is the thing - it's mistakes like that that can lead to bigger problems. That's why I think it's strongly frowned upon to have 2 showbiz types with the same name. See IMDB see "Kevin Smith" acting in a non- Kevin Smith movie, and assume that they mean Kevin Smith, and not Kevin Smith. See my point?
Anyone else out there know about any precedents concerning famous people sharing a name?
