Kevin,
If you think you can do it and have it be an entertaining film, I say go for it. You have talent for telling a good story and only you know if the story in your head is worth telling. You definitely have a following, so you don't have to worry whether or not you will have an audience. Personally, I really like what you do. I will would be willing to see whatever you choose to do. I was introduced to your films late. "Dogma" was the first I saw in the theatre. I didn't think I would like your stuff. (I learned the error of my ways!) You have created a "universe" with believable characters,(if somewhat over the top at time, But that is what makes them fun.) settings that most people can identify with, and stories that are funny and/or emotionally compelling. If even a 5th of Hollywood could do what you do, we would not have to put up with the shit they keep trying to force down our throuts as quality entertainment. I say do what you feel comfortable doing. I know I will there to see it.
As for "retiring" your universe. Don't do it!! Take a break. Put it on hold. Take a few years if you have to ( ala, The Eagles..)but don't shelve it permenantely. I say this for the same reasons stated above. That and the fact people become attached to characters. Kind of like friends. We can live without having them around everyday, but we have to have the occasional contact. Besides, on a personal note: Silent Bob is my hero!
Thanks man, Keep up the good work. Whatever it may be-----nicori
