If I hear one more "full-circle" thing, I'll hurl.

What is it that is specfic to the soul of the broken nerd that loves to see something they enjoy end?

Is it a perverse self-loathing that manifests in the ultimate destruction of whatever it is that they feel "defines" them? Much talk of the "going out with a bang," but the stress, I find, is on the note of "going out." There is a seriously fucked nihilistic bent among the generation of slack, and I find it sad.

I'm not saying that being an "askew" fan defines the very nature of your soul, but Christ! You all enjoy it enough to post here. Why are you so set to toss the torch onto the Viking Funeral Ship? Clerks was a cool freshman effort without a budget-it screamed "potential", Mallrats sank at launch (still laugh like a bastard when I see it, & I own the DVD, but it was a financial flop)... Chasing Amy was great & well recieved, and Dogma the same.. So really, with only two successful movies on his resume, (I'm counting Clerks as more of a sucessful "Cover Letter" to the resume) you all are perfectly willing to tell Kevin to put the horse out to pasture?

What gives?

Now, I understand that this would not mean that he'd be exiting, J.D. Salinger-style, and never make a flick again... But why encourage him to stop doing, at least sometimes, the thing that made you dig him in the first place?

There's a strange, creepy tone that sounds from the hearts of people when a creative venture, be it a show, a movie series, or a comic book, threatens to close itself. An issue-laden delight in the death of it, with much talk of "It's really the time to end it all. Best that it goes out well."

That's the parlance of the suicide. It is fundimentally unhealthy, and frankly, ickky.

What ever happened to "rage, rage against the dying of the light?" Granted, we are talking here about a loose affiliation of 4 completely different movies, all with relative degrees of importance and execution, and ultimately, the price of gasoline is more *important* to all of our lives, but still...

If Kevin announced in a post that he had a "12 movie story arc, with only the sometimes appearances of Jay & Silent Bob connecting them" you all would be the owners of cream-filled jeans.

Yet he when he introduces the concept of "shutting down," you all call "shotgun!" as you leap into the passenger side of the Thelma & Louise caddy.

Baffling.

I'm not really that empassioned about "keeping the Askewniverse alive," but rather horrified at how quickly the masses chant to see the death...the "fitting" death. Yuck.
