I do not think you should do Mallrats2 . It would be like the chick in the "General's Daughter" re-enacting her rape over and over. Compared to your other stuff, Mallrats is a big piece of shit. It has its own little legion of lovers,but so does Anne Rice, and she couldn't write a good book if Hayek's muse from Dogma rubbed her ass over each piece of paper she was typing on. Mallrats failed for legitimate reasons. It was like you were trying to be John Hughes,but not Breakfast Club Hughes, more like "Career Opputunities" John Hughes. Your humor is verbally driven with the occasional shitmonster or knocked over corpse. Mallrats was the opposite,it was full of some very stupid sightgags aned it was saved from being a complete disaster because some scenes played to your strengths and Jason Lee delivered his lines with such gusto(I never thought I'd use that in a sentence. Gusto.). I personally think a Mallrats 2 would be you trying to show that it could make some bucks and you could shove it in the critics faces for the raping they gave the first one. You don't have to do that anymore, Amy and Dogma showed you are not a one-hit wonder. Mallrats 2 would be a step backward and I think Clerks 2 is not a step backward,its more like a step sideways. Amy and Dogma were big steps forward, Amy with the subject manner and Dogma with both subject manner and scope. Clerks 2 and Mallrats 2 would be like a baseball player going back to the minors just to hit a shitload of homeruns when he knows he should be taking his cuts in the majors. It may please a bunch of your fans to see them, but it would please all those Britney Spears fans to see her do a gangbang video. Don't do it. Sit back,chill with the wife and kid, don't do "baby's day out 2" and keep stepping forward. Michael Jordan did not make his HS basketball team until he was a senior, you never saw him return to the High School and score 150 points because it would be an Ego trip and he is beyond that,and I think you are as well. The next step you should take is to try and expand your visual horizons. You have admitted that your visuals aren't up to the levels of,say PTA(bwahahha,frogs), but thats just laziness. You had some damn nice visuals in Dogma. It seems to me,and some reviewers said the same thing, that you think so hard on the story that the visuals take the backseat. Go hardcore at both and I bet you will knock some people on their asses. But you can't do that if you are filming more shite like Mallrats 2. Or even Clerks 2, Your other flicks really didn't need Scorsese-esque Camerastuff. Now that Dogma has shown your horizons are expanding, show the critics they are punks by showing you have visual flair, not by showing that enough stoners have rented Mallrats that you could actually pull in respectable numbers with a sequel.
