: Not being of the faith I was quite unaware of the angels names and other references to the biblical stuff. So I was wondering without having to pick up a bible/New Testament, is there any sort of "reference guide" that you guys used, because the topics sounds really interesting, enough to make into a video game!
The names were drawn from a variety of literary and mythological sources. Most are not used literally. Loki is a mischievious Norse God (often, in fact, called the God of Mischief, however the Norse deities do not actually represent a concept in clear ways in the same manner that the Greek/Roman Gods do). Azrael is the name of the Angel of Death. Metatron is, to the best of my understanding, used correctly.
It kind of continues like that. A reference book on Biblical and Historical Angel names wouldn't help anyone through all of them, because of this system. However, it could be interesting in its own right.
